Getting Back to Casteism and Communalism in India

With increasing development, are moving back?

In the evening of March 30, 2013 in Rohtak district in Haryana, two young men, Vikram and Sudir, aged 22 and 10 respectively were killed, when they are returning home after work. Going back to the reason behind that atrocity, it dates back to June 2012. If we take a deep look, the details are - Gurchadi ritual in marriages is practiced in many parts of North India. Gurchadi means when a bride groom mounts on a horse to travel to the bride's house. But this ritual is an issue between Dalits and Jats, a dominant community. The Jat community people feel that, the Gurchadi ritual is their sole right and dalits should not follow it.

Root cause

And coming to the incident, in June 2012, in a marriage ceremony in a dalit's family who were following the Gurchadi ritual, a girl from the bride groom's family was teased by some members of dominant community. As a result of that teasing one of the youngsters of Jat community was beaten up. After some days, a dalit youngster was set upon by some of the youngsters of the dominant community, when Vikram rescued him. In response to that the same evening his younger brother was beaten up by Jat youth.

This is the root cause behind the cruelty that happened on March 30, 2013 when Vikram and Sudir were killed.

And this is not the only incident of discrimination of dailts in Haryana. If we go on taking the examples there are many that come to light. Another such example is, on April 13, in Pabnawa village, Kaithal district, some 83 Dalit homes were vandalised and looted following the marriage of a Dalit youth to a girl from the dominantRor community of the village. The couple are now in a state-run protection home; their entry to their village is permanently barred.

Action of government

And many people started protesting against these atrocities, but that will be called out after the involvement of some political leaders and fake promises that are never kept.
The government too is blind folded towards these. The dalit people there even complained that, inspite of having a good education they are forced out from doing high jobs and work. They said that the dominant community feels that only their group must be developed.
Fate and future must be designed by one's self. Do you think there is an involvement of caste and community in deciding the future and career?

Environment

This makes me feel that may be the dalits are backward by community and caste, but the dominant group people are more backward by their thoughts. Development should come from one's inside. At such a tender teen age, do they really know what is discrimination, and if we think about the roots of discrimination in their thoughts, anyone know, from where they started their growth.

They are dare enough to kill another person. If at all the government policies and actions are quick and strict, do they take such dare? What about the education? In Haryana there had been an almost a 50 per cent incerese in crimes against Dalits between 2005 and 2013. From 162 cases in 2005, the numbers had risen to 238 until January 2013. And why the government is not going further against these atrocities?

After the March 30 incident, no single ruler from the ruling party made a visit to the victim's house. What does this means?

Great people

We all know the struggle that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar faced as a dalit, in his childhood, when people of upper caste rikshaw walas rejected him to take to a place only because he belongs to Mahar, a dalit community. That insult he faced that day made him draft our constitution and a national hero.

May be a dalit or a dominant, our lives are interdependent on one another. In one way are the other need arises when one needs other's help. Living in such a society and such a situation, why this hatred and inferiority and superiority rules us? Only we will be the sufferers because of these internal conflicts, which makes the intruders and outsiders to settle among us and dominate us.

If we go back to the days of British rule and think deep about the root of their authority, it is we ourselves gave them a chance to dominate us by supporting them for the destruction of others among us, which at last resulted in our self destruction and slavery.

Whoever we may be, a dalit or a dominant, we have to remember one thing that we belong to one family, INDIA. And we all are INDIANS.
